Two Teams Build the Future of Antibody Medicine
The drug discovery model has a problem. It takes too long, costs too much, and fails too often. The average time from discovery to patient is over a decade. The average cost, north of a billion dollars. The failure rate in clinical trials hovers around 90%.
So when two organizations announce they’re building a new model from scratch, one that combines the financing and strategic muscle of a specialist biotech venture firm with the biology and R&D firepower of a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, it’s worth paying attention.
On May 11, 2026, Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Delos Capital and Taipei, Taiwan-based AP Biosciences announced exactly that.
What Was Announced
The two organizations have launched a strategic collaboration to create and incubate new biotechnology companies, with their first area of focus on autoimmune diseases.
The initial scientific direction centers on bispecific and trispecific antibodies, molecules engineered to hit two or three disease targets simultaneously, rather than the single-target approach of traditional antibody therapies. This next-generation antibody design is where much of the most exciting immunology research is currently happening, with the potential to unlock precision treatments for conditions where conventional drugs have largely failed.
The model splits responsibilities along lines of comparative advantage. Delos, operating through its Delos Foundry incubation arm, will lead therapeutic ideation, financing, and company building. APBio will contribute its proprietary antibody discovery platforms, the Omni-Mab and T-Cube systems, as well as its full-stack translational expertise, built over years of moving molecules from early discovery through pivotal Phase 3 clinical trials.
Who Are These Organizations?
Delos Capital is a Cambridge-based life sciences investment firm with a clear identity: it doesn’t just write checks. It builds companies. Henry Chen, founder and managing partner, has been clear that when Delos can’t find an existing company that fits one of its investment theses, it creates one. That’s what the Delos Foundry was built for, a structured incubation model for spinning up US-based biotech companies from scratch around compelling science and unmet medical needs. The firm applies a combination of biological expertise, proprietary AI workflows, and deep network access across major biotech innovation hubs.
AP Biosciences (APBio) is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company founded by Dr. Jeng Her in Taiwan. Its origin story has Silicon Valley roots. Her co-founded KaloBios Pharmaceuticals in the Valley after postdoctoral training at Bristol-Myers Squibb, where he helped invent a key antibody humanization technology later licensed to Novartis for $32 million. APBio has since built a fully integrated R&D engine in Greater China, developing its Omni-Mab human antibody library and T-Cube bispecific antibody design platform, with multiple molecules reaching clinical stages in oncology and immunology.
Why This Structure Is Interesting
The deal is described as a first-of-its-kind collaboration between a specialist biotech venture firm and a publicly-traded biopharma and that structure matters.
Traditional drug development partnerships usually take one of two forms: a large pharma company licenses technology from a smaller biotech, or two companies co-develop a single asset. What Delos and APBio are doing is different. They’re building a factory for new companies, each of which would start with validated biological insights from APBio’s platform and a defined clinical hypothesis, then be resourced and scaled by Delos’s capital and company-building infrastructure.
The logic is straightforward: by combining Delos’s track record in financing and building companies with APBio’s operational efficiency in Greater China’s life sciences ecosystem, they aim to move from concept to clinical proof of concept faster and with less capital than a standalone startup could manage.
As Chen put it, the goal is to fill gaps their investment theses identify, not wait for someone else to fill them.

The Science Behind the Strategy
Bispecific and trispecific antibodies are not a new concept, but their clinical and commercial viability has dramatically improved over the last decade as manufacturing technology and protein engineering have advanced.
A bispecific antibody can, for example, simultaneously engage a tumor antigen and an immune cell receptor, essentially serving as a bridge that brings the immune system directly to the cancer cell. For autoimmune diseases, the same principle applies: molecules can be designed to modulate two pathways at once, potentially achieving better efficacy with fewer side effects than combining two separate drugs.
APBio’s T-Cube platform is specifically built for this kind of multi-target design, generating bispecific antibodies with engineered properties for stability, binding affinity, and manufacturing consistency. That platform, now made available to the Delos Foundry model, is the scientific engine behind what the two organizations are trying to build.
What Comes Next
The announcement marks the beginning of the collaboration, not the delivery of a drug. The path from here to a medicine that reaches patients runs through target identification, discovery, preclinical validation, IND filings, and at least two or three phases of clinical trials, a process that, even in optimistic scenarios, takes years.
But the structure they’ve established is designed to compress that timeline where possible, by starting with validated biology, building focused companies rather than sprawling internal programs, and applying capital where the science is most de-risked.
In a biotech landscape where the gap between promising science and accessible medicine has been frustratingly wide, that’s an approach worth watching.
