Let’s Tour the Ireland 🇮🇪

By Knowledge Moniker
September 20, 2026

In this article we are going to talk about Ireland – its culture, history, food, famous places, and so much more. We guarantee you are going to love it. Let’s go!

Ok, so. Ireland is situated in the north west of Europe.

Now here is the first thing you need to know, the island of Ireland is not completely Ireland. It shares a border with Northern Ireland, which is actually a part of the United Kingdom.

And the Republic of Ireland’s land area is about 70,273 km². Roughly the size of the state of Indiana in the USA.

Ireland came into being on April 18, 1949 Eastern Monday.

Okay, enough of the boring geography stuff. Let’s get to the fun part – the food! 😋

The Full Irish Breakfast

This is the one that started it all. A proper Full Irish Breakfast includes:

  • Rashers (Irish bacon)
  • Sausages
  • Black and white pudding
  • Eggs
  • Beans
  • Toast

Colcannon

Simple. Warming. Delicious.

Colcannon is mashed potato mixed with kale or cabbage and a generous amount of butter. It sounds basic but one spoonful and you will understand why the Irish have been eating this for centuries.

Irish Stew

A one-pot meal that has literally fed Ireland for hundreds of years.

Irish Stew contains:

  • Lamb
  • Potato
  • Onion
  • Carrots

Slow cooked, hearty, and absolutely perfect on a cold and rainy Irish day

Hang on! Here Is an Insane Food Fact You Did Not Expect!

Ireland is home to bog butter, which is ancient edible butter buried and preserved in peat bogs for hundreds or even thousands of years.

Back in 2013, a turf-cutter in Tullamore, Ireland, stumbled upon a container of 5,000-year-old butter hidden in a peat bog. This makes it officially the oldest, and arguably the most terrifying, spread in human history. 😂

We’re thinking, You want to go to Ireland now, don’t you?

But, Before you book that ticket, here are the essential things to know

Ireland and the EU

Ireland is a member of the European Union. This means if you are traveling from any EU country, getting into Ireland is incredibly easy

🗣️ Language

  • First official language: Irish (Gaeilge)
  • Everyday language: English

You can absolutely get around easily speaking English. But learning a few Irish words? That will make the locals absolutely love you.

Weather

Ireland has a temperate maritime climate, mild, wet, and very changeable.

One rule that every Ireland traveler swears by: Always pack layers and a waterproof jacket.

It can be sunny at 9am and rainy by 10am. Welcome to Ireland! 😂

Getting There

  • Dublin Airport is the main international hub
  • Shannon Airport and Cork Airport also serve international routes

Now for the part everyone has been waiting for, where should you actually go?

Here are the 5 most famous and beautiful places to explore in Ireland.

Cliffs of Moher

These dramatic sea cliffs stretch for about 14 kilometers along the Atlantic coast, rising hundreds of feet straight up from the crashing ocean below.

Standing at the edge of the Cliffs of Moher feels like standing at the edge of the world. Here is the photo.

Cliffs of Moher, the end of world

Ring of Kerry

If you love long drives and spectacular nature, the Ring of Kerry is made for you.

This is a 179 km scenic circular drive through the southwest of Ireland, passing through Muckross House, Torc Waterfall, Moll’s Gap, and some of the most breathtaking coastal and mountain scenery you will ever see in your life.

Kylemore Abbey

This is in the heart of Connemara,

Kylemore Abbey is a 19th-century castle that was converted into a Benedictine monastery.

It is soaked in romance, mystery, and one of the most stunning settings imaginable. The Gothic castle reflects in a mountain lake in front of it, with the Connemara mountains rising behind. It genuinely looks like someone painted it.

Ballinastoe Woods

This one is a hidden gem that most tourists miss, and that is exactly why you should go.

It is a stunning, fairytale-like pine forest in County Wicklow, famous for its winding wooden boardwalk winding through tall, silent pine trees and panoramic views of Lough Tay, also known as the “Guinness Lake”

The Long Room Library, Trinity College

Architecture lovers and book lovers, this one is for you.

The Long Room at Trinity College Dublin was built between 1712 and 1732 and is one of the most beautiful libraries in the entire world. It holds over 200,000 of the oldest books in Ireland, displayed in towering oak shelves that line both sides of a barrel-vaulted ceiling.

Ireland’s Economy

Now here is something that surprises most people about Ireland. This small island nation is actually an economic powerhouse.

Key Economic Facts:

  • 5th in nominal GDP per capita globally (IMF projections)
  • Europe’s tech capital; Google, Apple, Meta, LinkedIn, and Twitter all have their European headquarters in Dublin
  • Ireland manufactures 50% of Europe’s pharmaceuticals and 25% of exported medical devices
  • Low corporate tax of 12.5% (now rising to 15% under OECD global rules) attracted massive multinational investment
  • ✈️ 10 million+ overseas visitors per year, contributing €8 billion+ to the economy

Yes, a country of 5 million people hosts the European headquarters of some of the world’s biggest tech companies. This is the hidden super power of Ireland. 💪

Culture and Values

This is honestly my favorite part. Because what truly makes Ireland special is not just what you see, it is what you feel when you are there.

Traditional Music

Walk into any pub across Ireland on any evening and you might find a spontaneous traditional music session happening in the corner.

Uilleann pipes, fiddle, tin whistle, bodhrán. Sessions happen informally in pubs across the country.

Storytelling

Ireland has one of the world’s strongest oral storytelling traditions. The Irish have a gift for language and narrative that goes back thousands of years.

Irish Dancing

Riverdance brought Irish step dancing to the world in 1994 and it took everyone’s breath away. But this is not just a performance.

Irish dancing is a living tradition still taught in schools and practiced in communities across the country.

GAA – Gaelic Games

Gaelic football and hurling are the national sports of Ireland.

They are unlike anything else in the world. They are amateur, community-based, and intensely followed. On match days, entire counties come to a standstill.

The Irish Diaspora

Here is a staggering number: 80 million people worldwide claim Irish heritage. Of those, 40 million are in the USA alone.

Ireland is a tiny island that somehow built one of the largest cultural communities on earth.

Final Thoughts

Ireland is one of those places that does something to you. The green hills, the dramatic coastline, the warmth of the people, the music in the pubs, the weight of the history, it all adds up to an experience that is genuinely hard to put into words.

Whether you are planning a trip, researching for school, or simply curious about this small but remarkable island at the edge of Europe. I hope this gave you a real feel for what Ireland is all about.

Céad míle fáilte – a hundred thousand welcomes 💚
